I really believe that art is a practice, something that requires hard work and effort over time. In order to be a good art teacher, I feel it is important to maintain the same practice I ask of my students. I make a small drawing every single day to keep up the habit of thinking & working creatively. Even though I consider myself an illustrator, I really love and value working directly from observation, and draw people in airports, libraries, and coffee shops compulsively. Some of the artists I'm currently obsessed with include Oliver Jeffers, Paul Octavious, Charley Harper, Ed Ruscha, Alice Neel, Kehinde Wiley, and Rachel Hayden.
ms. seelaus, the teacher:
I studied Illustration and Art Education at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Masters of Art during my time there. I have worked with students of all ages, from Pre-K to college students, but definitely like high school students the best. I am currently lucky enough to teach at Cherry Creek HS, my alma mater. During my summers, I also coordinate the Maryland Institute College of Art's Pre-College Summer Studio Residency Program for high school students who are thinking about studying art at the college level to experience all that art school has to offer.
